The commission has asked the state police to step in and take immediate action.

The controversy centers on two tracks: Aujla’s recently released ‘MF Gabhru’ and Singh’s older hit ‘Millionaire’. Both songs have come under fire for their explicit lyrics, which many listeners and activists believe perpetuate harmful stereotypes about women.

The Commission’s chairperson, Raj Lali Gill, has expressed deep concerns about the way women are portrayed in these songs. She called the language used “misogynistic” and “inappropriate.”

In a letter to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), Gill stated that both songs violate the dignity of women and contribute to the negative image of women in society. The Commission has asked for a thorough investigation and wants a detailed report by August 11, 2025, the same day the artists are expected to appear before the commission.

The controversy began after the release of Karan Aujla’s song ‘MF Gabhru’. In just under a week, the song has racked up millions of views. Critics have called out the track for using offensive language that, they claim, disrespects women.

At the same time, Honey Singh’s track ‘Millionaire’, which was released several years ago, has also come under scrutiny. The Commission has pointed out that the song features similar language that objectifies women.

Both songs, according to the Women’s Commission, go beyond just inappropriate language, as they reflect a dangerous mindset that could reinforce disrespectful views about women in society.

This isn’t the first time that Honey Singh has found himself in the middle of a controversy over his lyrics. The rapper has faced similar criticism in the past for his songs, which have often been accused of objectifying women.

On the other hand, Karan Aujla is a rising star in the Punjabi music scene. He has become one of the most listened-to artists in recent years. His song ‘MF Gabhru’ is just one example of his ability to generate massive attention.
